Alan Lightman

The New York Times has called Alan Lightman "highly original and imaginative." Each of his novels is a new exploration of that imagination, utterly unlike the others. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, and educated at Princeton and the California Institute of Technology (from which he received a Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2003), Lightman is a novelist, essayist, physicist, and educator. He is currently Adjunct Professor of Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1996, he was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and also won the 1996 American Institute of Physics Andrew Gemant Award for linking science to the humanities. His books have been translated into 30 languages, nominated for numerous awards, and singled out by National Public Radio and Book Sense. He lives in Concord, MA.
