This quiet meditative book can be used as a field guide for spiritual awareness. Barbara Taylor, an ordained Episcopal priest, reflects on living in the here and now. Among others, she cites the poet Rumi, the Old and New Testaments, Buddha, and Thoreau, in showing how there are altars everywhere. The wilderness chapter on the “holy art of being lost” is particularly engaging. Reverend Taylor currently teaches religion at Piedmont College in Georgia.

Many years ago, a member of my book group chose for discussion this book. I probably would not have read it on my own, but it has been one of my favorite books for the past fifteen years. Everytime I think about "stuff" or collecting things, I remember this book. A wonderfully written piece of historical fiction, it is based on the lives of Sir William Hamilton, his wife Emma (born Emily Lyon) and Lord Nelson. If you have read Susan Sontag's essays and criticism, this is a good choice for experiencing her creativity as a fiction writer. If you have not read Susan Sontag, the blending of history and fiction will stay with you forever.

This book follows two children, Adele and Simon, in their wanderings home from school through Paris. Along the way, Simon continues to lose things, until he has practically nothing left. His lost belongings appear on every page for the reader to find, making the book a more sophisticated and Parisian "Where's Waldo." The illustrations, done in warm and earthy colors, evoke a very French mood, from the art nouveau M

I received a copy of this collection of Langston Hughes poetry from my daughter for Christmas four years ago. I turn to it often. It has a poem for any of my moods or situations. On a wintry day after shoveling snow, I read aloud Still Here on page 123.
